Foster Lead

General summary

Auckland Puppy Rescue (APR) is a registered charity relying on donations and grants, committed to rescuing puppies in need, desexing to control the number of unwanted puppies being born and rehoming all puppies that come into our care.

APR is run by a small group of trustees and volunteers who each contribute valuable skills to ensure the charity’s success. We work collaboratively and communicate regularly and are always there to support our fellow volunteers when they need it.

The purpose of the Foster Lead role is to have overall accountability for the Fosters that care for APR puppies and arranging for foster care for all new puppies that come into APR. This role requires someone to be very responsive and available to Foster’s needs, acting quickly to respond to situations and resolve issues.

Key activities of the role

  • Working with the Puppy Rescue Coordinator, this role will onboard new puppies into APR and set them up with a suitable Foster
  • You will take responsibility for the care of all new puppies including naming, setting them up in our systems liaising with the Marketing team to start advertising
  • When Fosters have puppies, you will keep in regular contact and ensure they have all the information and supplies they need to care for the pup/s
  • This role is also responsible for supporting adoption trials
  • You will need to manage and issues and respond quickly to provide support

Skills you will need

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; quickly builds rapport with people from all walks of life, possessing confidence and the ability to engage proactively with Fosters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to professionally negotiate through challenging situations
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proactive attitude
  • Sense of urgency to respond to Fosters in a timely manner and take a flexible approach to change
  • Ability to attend the occasional fundraising event would be ideal

Support

Full support and guidance will be provided as the successful person becomes familiar with the role.

Time required

This role will require someone to be available to take and make calls during the day or over weekends to ensure all Foster families are supported and that any issues can be addressed quickly. Time commitment will vary.

Reimbursement

This is an unpaid, volunteer role which will require the use of personal equipment such as computer and phone.
